Data driven look at 5-year and newly available 10-year data points on recidivism using the Static-99R. Covers both contact and non-contact sexual offenders.

Summary

The Static-99R is an actuarial based method to estimate risk of recidivism for individuals who have been charged and or convicted of certain types of sexual crimes.

The recidivism rates were last updated in 2016. At that time, there was only enough data to reliably estimate 5-year recidivism rates. The authors were unable to provide enough data to make reliable 10-year recidivism estimates.

Static-99R: The Study

The current study, published in 2021, fills the gap, providing 10-year estimates as well as updating the 5-year estimates based on the most up to date data.

Mitigation Aide is full of useful content for criminal defense, attorneys, public defenders, forensic mental health professionals, sentence mitigation experts, and researchers!

How do antisociality and paraphilia affect the motivations of Black American versus White American sexual offenders? The motivations for sexual offending.

Summary

There is a vast array of research pointing to the fact that sexual offenders are a heterogenous group and that it is difficult to generalize across offense types and populations. Despite the vast amount of research on sexual offenders, there is a lack of scientific studies that look at potential differences in offender characteristics related to race or ethnicity. This study sought to address this lack of knowledge by investigating any potential differences between white and black men who have committed sexual offenses.

Mitigation Aide is full of useful content for criminal defense, attorneys, public defenders, forensic mental health professionals, sentence mitigation experts, and researchers!
