Does the Static-99R or the MnSOST-R accurately predict recidivism in individuals with Intellectual Disabilities or Borderline Intellectual Functioning?

Summary

Nearly 20% of all incarcerated offenders have been identified as having an intellectual disability (IDD) or borderline intellectual functioning (BIF).

Despite this relatively high number of individuals with IDD who are incarcerated, there is limited research on the effectiveness of actuarial risk assessments on this population.

This study aimed to compare the predictive accuracy of the Static-99, Static -99R and the MnSOST-R for individuals

Mitigation Aide is full of useful content for criminal defense, attorneys, public defenders, forensic mental health professionals, sentence mitigation experts, and researchers!

How does the scientific knowledge differ from the way a court views adolescents versus adults?

Summary

When it comes to the definition of adolescent and adult, science and the legal system have very different definitions. In most jurisdictions, a person who is 18 years old is considered an adult and some individuals who are younger than 18 can be tried as an adult based on the crime they commit. According to science, a brain is not fully developed until the person is in their early to mid-20’s.

Mitigation Aide is full of useful content for criminal defense, attorneys, public defenders, forensic mental health professionals, sentence mitigation experts, and researchers!
